about

This was the last track I wrote for the album. It was written only 3 days before the recording sessions were due to start.

I think the lyrics are pretty self explanatory but its a song about how I left the country and went on an adventure with no real aims. There are other songs on the album that talk about the traveling I did but in this one I tried to explain how it felt to be away with no idea when I would return and how it felt like I was just bobbing around on the waves of life.

It was originally intended as a guitar and vocal song but after playing it to Matt, we decided to record a full band version instead.

The lyrics were still being finalised as I was in the vocal booth on the day of recording and the last line was only written as I was recording it.

I remember Matt and I staying up until the very early hours one morning with him playing bass guitar and me on the electric piano, swaying along like some kind of 60s hippy hangout minus the drugs and kaftans. I loved every part of recording this song.

lyrics

There was no party, there were no songs.
My life got flipped turned upside down while the world carried on
just the same, and for the world, nothing had changed

Tears fell on no-one's cheek as my boat floated off
I stared longingly back at dover till the rock show was over and done
It made me sad, doesn’t anybody know who I am?

And I am not sure what I expected
but I know it was more than what I got
And I’m trying to justify feeling rejected
But to be fair, no one on the island tried to push me off.

And though I chose to leave, some bridges remained
And I was secretly hoping that the door will still be open for me
Should I return, but I know that right must be earned

And I’m not sure what I expected
As if leaving would solve anything
I chose to be blind to those i neglected
No I didn’t care, I just wanted to drink and dance and sing

But while i was lost, someone found me
And from that first night i knew everything would be alright but not easy
But you never really win if you know where you’ll come out when you go in.

And I’m not sure what I expected
But I know I got more than I deserved
And from the moment i was infected
I was not scared, I just wish I’d been a little more rehearsed

So fellow sailors beware, if you’re lost at sea
And you’re feeling all alone, remember there’s no place like home
And the things that weigh you down, stop from floating away
